ALTOZANO HOUSE

PROJECT EQUIPMENT AND IMAGES:

INHABITANT / Comprehensive housing reform projects.

THE NEEDS AND  WISHES:

There are in the old town of the Aravaca neighborhood a number of very unique and protected village houses from the 1940s. Carlos's house is one of them.

The architects of HABITANTE face the challenge of getting the most creative and functional out of the comprehensive reform of a home with strict protection measures by the regulations of the city council.

The main façade facing the street and the plan configuration with two patios, one at the front and the other at the rear, had to be respected.

Only the main facade was preserved, demolishing the rest of the old construction. This characteristic turns the project into a situation halfway between a comprehensive reform and new construction.

THE ARCHITECTURE:

The driving force behind the design derived from questions that sometimes help us define needs or tastes that we are not very clear about when making our own home ... What is the most important thing to live day to day in your home? Do you work at home, how do you keep work away and create a sense of calm when you need to relax? How is your relationship with nature? What is your desired comfort level?

The answers to these questions help architects define the zoning and guidelines that will guide future design guidelines. They responded by proposing  balance the boundaries between living and working,  and also  find a new balance between functionality, beauty and sustainability.

The concept consisted of creating a ground floor where you could  work during the day  and transform into a  quiet living space in the evenings.

This floor was divided into two areas, the library and the living room / dining room / kitchen, joined by a double door that gives the possibility of joining everything and creating a large space.

The facades and volumes retain the traditional materials, required by current regulations.

INTERIOR DESIGN AND DECORATION:

Carlos has just inherited the furniture and books from his family and is very emotionally linked to his ancestors, so each piece of furniture and books have carefully chosen spaces and places.

With only three natural materials inside such as unpainted living plaster on the walls, wood floors treated with glaze in natural tones and white polished concrete throughout the house, a natural, reassuring and luminous atmosphere was created. Matter in its purest form.

OUTSIDE:

The house's two patios, one front and one rear, help with natural cross ventilation in the spring and fall seasons.

A small pool has been projected in the backyard, to the north, as a visual axis from the living / dining room / kitchen, giving depth to these views.

In the front patio, to the south, a Mimosa has been planted and complemented with pots of different sizes with seasonal flower plants, recreating the typical village courtyards.

The house is equipped with a ventilation system with a heat exchanger.
